The Saha Branch in western Busan is one of the quieter suburban institutes but with a great staff team and students. It’s close to public transport and only ten minutes away from central Busan by taxi. There are shopping centres, a beach, hiking trails and stores all nearby. Hi! My name is Liz Goode, and I am the HI at the Saha April English Campus in Busan. I arrived in Korea from Australia at the beginning of 2008, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far. When I first thought about making the move to live in Korea, I didn’t think that I would have the confidence and skills to be an effective teacher. However, the pre-prepared curriculum, initial training, and ongoing support from other instructors and the HR department have made the learning curve smoother and equipped me better than I ever thought I would be. Saha has been a good area to work and live in, with a more casual atmosphere than other busier, more affluent districts. Saha is surrounded by mountains, many of which you can walk up for a view of the city, and has a university area with a reasonable selection of bars, eateries, and shops. The local culture around Saha is endearing and authentic, and it is still less than a half hour subway ride away from some of the main shopping, nightlife and tourist areas in Busan. The Saha branches are also more casual than most other locations, and the administration staff and fellow teachers at both Saha April and Saha CDI have been extremely friendly, helpful and supportive. Although it hasn’t been without its challenges, teaching has been an engaging and rewarding experience. I have learnt a lot about Korean culture and about interacting with kids, and have gained a raft of invaluable professional and life skills.
